Name:Selene
Birthdate:May 3
Series:'Underworld'.
Age: Well into her adult years. Was turned six centuries ago.
From: Some time after 'Underworld Evolution'.
Allegiance: Militant. Selene has inferred that she has fed humans out of hunger, yet spoke of doing so not being a desirable act to have on one's conscience. While she doesn't display any fondness for humans, Selene has always acted on the side of what she has perceived to be lawful. More than anything, she is a warrior who no longer has a cause, much less official purpose.
Role: Assault/assassination.
Abilities: In Selene's world, vampires are a result of, not magical intervention, but viral infection. Her heart still beats and reflection can be seen in mirrors, yet she is capable of superhuman feats of endurance, strength, speed and sensory perception.
Weapons:
Her two modified Beretta 92FS handguns with specialised silver ammunition:

Biological:
* Having recently ingested the original strain of the virus which brought vampires and werewolves into being, Selene's level of strength is now equal to the eldest of her kind; the surviving member of whom she managed to personally best in savage hand-to-hand combat.
* Can now hold her breath for a very long time. It should be pointed out, however, that following a prolonged dive, even after becoming a 'true' immortal, she did gasp for air and can be heard to breathe faster after physical exertion. This, in concert with the fact that she has a beating heart, suggests that, medically, she would still be classified as 'alive', albeit in a constant state of regeneration to prevent effects of age.
* Has survived falls from tremendous heights with ease, being slammed violently into stone walls, impalement and point-blank shotgun blasts to the abdomen.
* Is much faster than a regular human being, with reflexes to match.
* A previous weakness to burning when subjected to UV light, such as the sun, has since been negated.
* When angered, fangs will extend more obviously and eyes generally take on an ice-blue glow (although, when in a state of excessive agitation, they have been shown to progress to a further, brighter colour).
* In terms of procreation, the virus is usually lethal and most humans die "within an hour" of receiving a bite from an immortal, although a choice few, such as herself, can survive it and be turned to vampirism. As demonstrated by Sonja, however, she would be capable of becoming pregnant and giving birth to vampiric children.
Metaphysical:
As displayed by Erica and, to some degree, Michael, Selene should have the ability to somehow adhere to an inverted or horizontal surface by hands (and footwear), alone. While the actual cause for this is likely to be biological, rather than 'magical', it is not known how.
Skills:
* Having spent 600 years focusing on nothing but the enforcement of vampiric law, Selene displays extreme proficiency in both combat and, interestingly, detective skills (with an apparent photographic memory). As a former 'Death Dealer', she strove to be nothing less than a killing machine, although her speciality was usually the elimination of werewolves, rather than human beings. While this has recently changed, Selene would still be extremely well-versed in hunting techniques, especially when it comes to 'lycan' (werewolf) opponents.
* Very adept at using technology, having had to keep up with the latest in weapons and surveillance equipment in her line of work.
* Is multilingual, speaking fluent Russian, French and, primarily, flawless English, although her place of birth was actually Hungary. Because of centuries in active, international duty, one can surmise that she knows how to speak many languages, but would have focused mainly in a European theatre of operations.
Weaknesses:
* Starvation is unlikely to lead to death, but could produce a period of hibernation, during which her heart would cease to function, until vital systems are reawakened with a fresh intake of blood (human or otherwise). In time, her form would adopt a mummy-like appearance of skin, bone and atrophied muscle. Were this to occur, then, depending on the amount of time which has passed, she could awake to extreme disorientation, since her memories might be in a state of massively disorganised confusion. This process should only be undertaken by an elder and Selene's only attempt to raise another through this process had been when she felt it the only option available.
* Selene is unlikely (so far as is known) to possess the ability of elders to read genetic memories by feeding, as her methods of gaining information have always been through providing incentives or, more often, intimidation. Anyone who she successfully turns would eventually start to experience some glimpses of her own, however.
* While feeding upon other vampires appears to present no risks and sexual unions have been shown to involve the act as a fetish, for the most part, blood is required to regenerate from otherwise fatal injuries.
* The most probable way of certain death, would probably be decapitation or incineration, although holy relics and silver have never affected her. Attempting to ingest and digest 'normal' food, however, could be lethal and is usually rejected by the body (Ziodex Industries secretly manufactured 'synthetic plasma' and was about to release cloned blood; both of which made up Selene's usual diet).

Personality: Selene's campaign of revenge was just about the only real passion in her life, but even this was done with a highly methodical level of precision. Selene might execute orders with extreme prejudice, but was often machine-like in doing so, becoming the very epitome of Death Dealer efficiency. She seemed to take joy only in killing werewolves, doing so with cold, predatory instinct. In her own words, Selene thought it a pity that the species seemed to have been almost driven to extinction, purely because she "lived for" hunting down and destroying them.

Kraven, a possessive admirer and Erica, a friend (albeit, a jealous one), both often seemed to try to get her to enjoy the excesses of decadence their kind could afford to live by, but Selene demonstrated only annoyance with this. Preferring, for the most part, to simply ignore any attempts to try and get her to engage in a social lifestyle. She both was - and remains - a soldier, through and through. Albeit, no longer with an active cause or comrades. Something which she, no doubt, looks back fondly upon with a distinct sense of nostalgia, even if now knowing the motivation behind it to have been based on falsehoods.

Indeed, fellow warriors were the only group she considered worthy of trust. Outside of Viktor's leadership, vampiric society, although hidden from human public knowledge, had drifted into squandering luxury and far from the pride of honour she valued so much. The Death Dealers, after all, represented everything which had convinced her to become a vampire. Chaotic lawlessness and the back-stabbing arena of politics seemed distasteful to her, by comparison. Most of all, perhaps, because others lacked what she perceived as the common sense to get necessities done.

With so many turning out to have betrayed her, however, Selene will only feel vindicated in allowing few, if any, emotionally close. Had it not been for her suspicious curiosity and need to see a task through to the end, then things may well have turned out far worse for her. While she does have a sense of humour, it's a dry one and rarely is she seen to smile.

Even so, she not a stranger to love. It remains unknown if she even had any romantic or sexual partners, at all, until meeting Michael Corvin, although it seems unlikely she remained a virgin. Power, money and influence do little to impress her, unless she knows them to have been earned and, although having a healthy respect for the chain of command, Selene has stood up to superiors, when feeling it necessary. Recent events will have proven to her that this trait has been more vital than ever.

Nevertheless, she can work just as well in part of a team, as a lone wolf and possesses a patient, reserved mentality, quick to act with pragmatism in the heat of the moment.

Journal:
If there's ever been a less likely method to impress me, than last night's attempt to recreate various national anthems through the medium of drunken accordian playing, then I've yet to know of it. I understand the mathematics behind ports + alcohol = strange goings on, but the Major's jingoistic parade, dressed in what one can only describe as an ill-fitting ballerina costume, is something which is going to take me longer than I care to think, to have scrubbed from memory.

Aside from that, the week seems to have gone mostly without incident. Only three public outbreaks of attempted murder, which, on the whole, I consider an improvement.

Toshiko, it would be greatly appreciated if you had a word with your inmate about her compulsive need to follow me around. I have no idea who this 'Anna' is or was, but the next time she springs out from the ceiling and greets me by that name, I'm going to see to it that she suddenly develops a great deal of difficulty comunicating with her vocal chords.
