I'm not sure if anyone's put the word out, but I assisted Warden Scott with as much of a scan as his technology allows for and nothing hazardous was discovered.

In case you've been avoiding the area, whatever caused the deaths is either no longer in evidence or is so undetectable that we'll probably never know if it's about or not.

Either way, consider this as close to a declaration of the area being safe as any of us are likely to get...

I can also verify the sudden lack of blood supply. Admiral, if this can be rectified, I'd appreciate it.

I've retained a supply in case of just such an eventuality. It's limited, but I'll be sharing what I have with you. Hopefully, this will be over before I run out of it.

Thaumometer. From the Ephebian for 'magic' and 'to measure' - it measures the amount of magic in the atmosphere - of course, there's background levels, but I should be able to tell if magic was involved in something.

I really think he's bluffing. The sword he's claiming acted, or something similar, I encased in a magic proof box.

There's no magic present in the atmosphere, either - it'd take quite a while to dissipate, too.

Even so, investigating all avenues is important. I'll put money on it not being him, though.

Whatever they feel is an unusual addition. This news, however, certainly adds an interesting dimension to things...

At the very least, it would be folly to ignore this. They could still be covering for another.

Oh, don't ignore it, no. Keep investigating. I just think... admittedly, just guessing from having known men like him, he's trying to inspire fear. Men like him work best when people are terrified of them.

Technically, I've undergone something of an evolution since then... But yes, for the sake of argument, I was what might be termed as a vampiric law enforcer.

Curious. We never really had those. Unless you count Constable Sally, who was... a vampiric law enforcer. Put a massive pause after the first word and we've got the difference in meaning.

We were more warriors than... Civil detectives. Our primary objective was in the hunting down and eradication of lycans.

Werewolves.

With that said, there used to be a resident vampire who identified himself as a 'Sheriff'. Not from my world, I might add. We co-ordinated efforts to try and police the ship's undead population, but it was with limited success.

Why would you want to eradicate werewolves? They can be quite valuable members of society too.

Oh. Ours are just... regular watchmen. Like Captain Swing except, um, less scary and less likely to own a personal dungeon.

I fear there wouldn't be enough for that. It would last for two, maybe three days, at most.

In top of which, I remember how I'm like when in the midst of a hungering frenzy. I could be a significant threat to the entire ship...

I'll see what I can do, but for one supply only. I can't have them realising I'm in possession of more. It'll endanger our own chances.

I... Really don't know. It's not something I wish to risk, unless absolutely necessary.

Animal life isn't exactly thriving where either of us seem to hail from, but others may have better luck in that regard. I shall try asking around.
